In worship we express gratitude to God for everything in this world. We express our thanks for the good food in our diets, the clothes on our backs, safe homes, the roads we drive on, and the air we breathe. We express thanks for all the people in this world who work to make our lives better. We express our thanks for all the gifts God gives us, and for the friendships we have with others.

Some mystery to Jesus. We read in John 6:67-69 that Jesus knew what He was doing when He came as the seed into the world to be baptized. We follow Jesus as He taught us during the sermons from today through the Gospel readings on Christmas Day, and we have the Holy Spirit living in us now and always to help us to follow Jesus as He did and teaches us.

Gaudete Sunday is a time of celebration. The translation of Gaudete Sunday in the Lectionary comes from the Latin word Gaudium, and means rejoice! This wonderful word describes the joy we have in celebrating Jesus and the children of God as we worship this Christmas. We gird our loins of sin, welcome the coming of the Prince of Peace, and welcome him in the gifts he gives us during the season of Advent!

During the season of Advent, let us meditate on Jesus and His life. Reflect on His life, His death, His resurrection, His life in you now and always, and the gifts He gives you by His Holy Spirit every day. Keep a vigil at midnight during the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, when the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated with the blessing of the water and fire from Heaven. 3d9ccd7d82
